5K Fun Run Traffic Plan – May 5

The Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual 5K Fun Run on Sunday morning, May 5.  The race goes out of the Oval at 9:15 and circles east around town and back, which can cause some challenges for those coming to church early.  Through communication with the Nutley Police Department, if you are arriving from 9:00-9:20 please come to Vincent Place via Franklin Avenue and William Street.  After 9:20, please come to Vincent Place using Passaic Avenue to Chestnut Street.  If needed, simply indicate to any police officers or guards that you are going to Vincent Church.  This is one of the challenges, far outweighed by the blessings, of being “The Church in the Heart of Nutley.”

Next Pastor – Rev. Dr. Samuel Park

Bishop John R. Schol has appointed Rev. Dr. Samuel Park as the next pastor of our congregation following Rev. LeDuc’s retirement on June 30. Rev. Park will begin his new responsibilities on July 1st of this year. As a United Methodist Church, we are a part of an appointment system. Our Staff Parish Relations Committee met with the district superintendent to identify our congregation’s needs and the needed skills in a pastor.  Pastor Sam was born and raised in NYC. He felt God tug at his heart to be in pastoral ministry at a mission trip in Mexico. He received an M.Div from Drew and D.Min from Wesley while serving churches in NY, MD, NJ, and most recently at Delran UMC. He has a heart for preaching, teaching, the local church, and missions, and he loves to see disciples of Jesus making disciples of Jesus. He and his wife Grace are blessed with two wonderful children. Our new pastor will work with us and the conference so that we continue to make disciples of Jesus Christ.  Bishop Schol and the leaders of the Greater New Jersey Conference will work with us to continue to grow as a vital congregation.

Easter is all about celebrating the new life Jesus makes possible for us! We often think of this new life in terms that are only spiritual or individual, but Jesus’ resurrection means new life for all of creation – yes, for us, but also for our communities and our environment. In a world grappling with environmental concerns, join us as we delve into scripture to understand how the renewed life Jesus offers shapes our responsibility to care for our environment and all its inhabitants.

Many people think that the Sunday before Christmas is Christmas Sunday.  This is not true because that Sunday is the fourth and last Sunday in Advent!  Christmas Sunday is the first Sunday on or after Christmas!  On that Sunday, we sing a lot of joyous carols, light the Advent and Christ Candles, and share some Christmas stories.  It is fun and informal and a true family celebration of the wonder and love of Christmas.  If you’re in town, come and enjoy this delightful service!

Christmas Eve Night Services

Our church offers two different opportunities on Christmas Eve to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! Both services will be held in the church sanctuary and also be available for viewing on the church Facebook page and by Call-In on the usual Sunday morning numbers. The Family Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. It will include the lighting of the Advent and Christ Candles, carols, scripture, and feature “Our Own Christmas Pageant” as we re-enact the nativity with costumed characters from among the children who attend the service. While this service may be less formal, all of the children and youth make it very special!  The Traditional Service will be held at 9:00 p.m., with prelude music featuring soloists, the Wesley Ringers, and the Chancel Choir beginning at 8:45 p.m.  The service will include carols, scriptures, music by the Choir, “O Holy Night,” a Christmas sermon, and the Service of Candlelighting. This is a lovely and moving service that brings peace and joy to the heart! Whichever service fits your schedule or style, we hope you'll come with family and friends to sing "Joy to the world!
